Fall Memories with Friends
Years:
Painted: 1991 Published: 1993
In this scene, Terry Redlin revisits a time in rural America’s past when entire families prepared their lawns for winter, and the sweet smell of burning leaves permeated the air. The artist remembers these autumn evenings as youthful contests. How big and bright could you make the fire? And how many times could you jump through the flames and smoke before a nearby adult called a halt to the fun? He also recalls, with a smile, one episode when the fire became so large that a nearby tree began burning, and soon a garage! After hiding for a whole day, he gathered his courage and finally returned home to face parental judgment.
