It is rare that an artist’s work is so original that it evolves into a genre of its own. Terry Redlin’s heartwarming scenes have been gracing art lover’s walls for decades, beginning with the 1977 release of Winter Snows.

Left art directing career to concentrate on painting wildlife.

1979

By age 42, the demand for Terry’s work allowed him to leave his art directing career at Webb Publishing in St. Paul, Minnesota to concentrate on painting wildlife full time.

Winner of Minnesota Duck Stamp Competition.

1981

Winner of Minnesota Trout Stamp Competition.

1982

Second in Federal Duck Stamp Competition.

Named Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year.

1983

Between 1981 and 1997, Terry’s gifts to Ducks Unlimited raised more than $28 million—an all-time record in art sales for wetland conservation projects. His Night Flight print was originally published as Ducks Unlimited’s Artist of the Year print in 1983 in recognition of this honor. Added new artistic direction—limited edition collector plates.

Terry was named Conservationist of the Year-Magnum Donor by the Minnesota Waterfowl Association for his donations of entire print collections.

Released American Memories and The Country Doctor series.

In 1987, Redlin began exploring his interest in Americana subjects and scenes of yesteryear, painting for his American Memories and Country Doctor collection. Pictured here is House Call from the Country Doctor series.

Released first book.

Opening Windows to the Wild, the Art of Terry Redlin— wins Certificate of Merit at Printing Industries of America competition.

Winner of the Lithograph of the Year Award (2nd runner up).

Began America the Beautiful series.

One of Terry’s most ambitious projects, his tribute to America begins with O Beautiful for Spacious Skies pictured here.

Terry Redlin Paints America the Beautiful video wins Telly Award.

1993

The 8 paintings in Terry’s America the Beautiful series represent one man’s tribute to America. The Redlin Art Center’s Amphitheater has free screenings of this award-winning film year-round.

The Redlin Art Center opens.

1997

Terry took great satisfaction in knowing that his work would continue to inspire others and support his two most cherished causes—preservation and restoration of rural America—at the Redlin Art Center in Watertown, South Dakota.

Releases second book.

Terry’s second book— Terry Redlin, Master of Memories, is released.

Named Most Popular U.S. Artist by U.S. Art magazine.

1998

Elementary school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota named after Terry Redlin.

National Television Debut

1999

Terry Redlin makes national television debut when QVC Broadcasts Live from the Redlin Art Center.

Terry Redlin inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame.

2001

Releases first in the An American Portrait series.

2004

In this series, Terry Redlin draws from his own memories to tell a story of heartfelt firsts. In His First Friend, the first of seven paintings, we embark on a journey through the life of a young American boy and his family.

Terry Redlin Announces Retirement.

2007

After a lifetime of artistic achievements, Terry Redlin announced his retirement from painting and print signing. Redlin, widely known as America’s Favorite Artist, accomplished what he set out to do—tell stories, remember experiences of youth, and capture nostalgic moments through painting. While no additional prints will be signed and no new paintings will be created, all are invited to view Terry’s many formative works in the Collection online or in-person at the Redlin Art Center.
