“The boy, the girl, and their dog have traveled a long distance in time and space to this beautiful place. The country has spanned a continent, matured, and provided a good life for millions of people. And for me, the ideal remains. We are at our best when close to nature. Even if sometimes the wildlife, in this case, seagulls, sneak bait from our fishing pails! For many people, this scene must be close to the American dream. I know I’d like to be that boy.”
The two children in this beautiful piece of art not only look exactly like two of my children when they were kids, but my daughter had the same pink pants, light blue jacket and long brunette straight hair. Furthermore, my son is younger than her and looks exactly like the boy in the painting including the hat and clothing. They would try to catch sun fish off of the small dock in the narrow cove behind our home. When viewing this Redlin painting on our living room wall, I would tell visitors that those are my two kids while their mother is baking chocolate chip cookies in the house, their older brother has sailed in the boat off into life, and I am the pastor of the Lighthouse Baptist Church…so, all of us are in the painting, thus, making this our treasured family portrait.
