Terry Redlin’s original oil paintings, “The Master’s Domain” and “On the Alert” have arrived at the Redlin Art Center.  They were owned by Roy and Vivian Brown who purchased the paintings from a gallery in Arizona in the early 1980’s prior to Terry Redlin’s decision to stop selling his original art. Mr. Brown loved and enjoyed the paintings for many years.

Little did he know that his dedicated employee and trusted friend, Carrie Nesheim Hall, was originally from Watertown, South Dakota. Through her, Mr. Brown learned about the Redlin Art Center. This connection and the Brown family’s desire to see the original oil paintings return “home” was the impetus for a very special donation.

In 2022, Carrie  Nesheim Hall reached out to the Redlin Art Center on behalf of Mr. Brown to start the conversation about his desire to donate the paintings. Unfortunately, Mr. Brown’s health took an unexpected turn and the donation had to be put on hold; but it was Roy and Vivian’s unwavering wish that their Redlin paintings would one day return to the Redlin Art Center.

“The Master’s Domain” and “On the Alert” are exquisite examples of the “romantic realism” Terry Redlin referenced as his style. “The Master’s Domain” is one of only a few paintings to feature elk; and “On the Alert” is a rare example of a Redlin original painted in a vertical format. Both paintings feature the intricacies and finesse art enthusiasts have admired throughout Terry Redlin’s career.

The Redlin family and the Redlin Art Center would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Roy and Vivian Brown for their very special gift; and to Carrie Nesheim Hall for ensuring that Mr. and Mrs. Brown’s wishes were fulfilled.

The addition of “The Master’s Domain” and “On the Alert” brings the total collection to 169 original paintings, including 30 that have returned “home” from the hands of private collectors since the Redlin Art Center’s opening in 1997. There are still 45 original Redlin paintings in the hands of private collectors.

Admission to the Redlin Art Center is free.
